Do you want to know how good you are at playing League of Legends? Are you curious to know what your Matchmaking Rating (MMR) is? Read on to learn how to check your MMR in LoL and find out more about how the system works!
What is MMR?
Matchmaking Rating (MMR) is a crucial aspect of League of Legends (LoL) that plays a significant role in determining the skill level of players. It is essentially a hidden rating system that operates discreetly in the background, constantly evaluating and updating each player's MMR value based on their performance in matches.
The MMR system determines a player's skill level based on their performance, win-loss ratio and the skill level of their opponents. Better individual performance, a higher win-loss ratio and defeating skilled opponents increases a player's MMR, while the opposite will decrease it.
Checking MMR in LoL
Let's go through the various ways for you to determine your MMR in League of Legends.
Using a Third-Party Website
Our favourite tool for checking MMR is WhatismyMMR.com. As long as you have enough matches played recently, the tool will be able to calculate your hidden MMR by entering your Summoner Name and Region.
Other websites such as op.gg and u.gg can provide an accurate and detailed analysis of your play history, and offer additional features such as win rates, champion statistics, and tier rankings.
Analyzing LP Gains and Losses
Pay attention to the LP (League Points) gains and losses after each ranked match. If you gain more LP than you lose, it indicates that your MMR is higher than your current rank. Conversely, if you lose more LP than you gain, it suggests that your MMR is lower than your current rank.
Comparing Ranks in Your Games
Observe the ranks of players in your games. If you consistently play with higher-ranked players, it suggests that your MMR is higher than your current rank. On the other hand, if you frequently play with lower-ranked players, it indicates that your MMR is lower than your current rank.?
Take a look at the image above where some Silver ranked players are in a lobby with Gold and Platinum players. Either these Silver players have a higher MMR than their rank, or the Gold and Platinum players have a lower MMR than their rank.
